WELCOME to the practice

Individuals initiate therapy for many reasons, some of which are to change self-defeating patterns, develop more satisfying relationships, obtain a greater understanding of oneself, better manage difficult moods and feelings, and increase coping skills with stressors, transitions, or losses. A beneficial therapeutic relationship requires not only competence and caring on the part of the clinician and commitment on the part of the client, but also a “good fit” between the two.

Philosophy

Collaboration with clients is essential to identify and achieve therapeutic goals in a confidential, respectful, supportive, and constructively-challenging environment. Treatment is tailored to each individual client’s needs. Often, therapeutic work involves cognitive-behavioral strategies which include assessing and altering thought patterns and behaviors that create an undesired impact, and/or a psycho-dynamic approach which examines the past to better understand its impact on one’s present experiences, conception of self, current relationships, and outlook on life. These approaches may be supplemented with techniques that assist in managing moods such as stress, depression, anger, and anxiety. An individual’s concerns are not separate from his/her environment and therefore comprehensive treatment also includes social, emotional, and physical well-being. Clinical focus is directed towards: identifying and implementing solutions; reducing distress; providing support; fostering insight; and working towards lasting, satisfying change.

Positive change is the result of identifying and building upon one’s strengths, rather than focusing on one’s deficits. Individuals have a significant capacity for change and growth at any phase of life. It is an honor to be entrusted with such a significant role in a client’s life.
